Often people who want to lose weight are told that in order to lose fat they would have to keep their heart rate in the “fat burning zone” or have a “fat burning pulse”.
It is true that with a lower heart rate most of the energy you use to fuel your cardio activity will come from fat. But will you really burn more fat in total? In this video we’ll put some light on the issue.
Please keep in mind that the examples and data given are a bit simplified, as otherwise this would have become a very long video.

Heah Cannibalizer, …
Heah Cannibalizer, IIRC Scooby was talking about people starting out. HIIT and the like is more stress for the body and should only be done by those experienced with demanding cardio training.
Beginners for example can push it too far and miss where the red line for their heart is or their heart can’t keep up with the sudden BPM changes required.
Amazing video Evil! …
Amazing video Evil! But i got 1 question, why does Scooby say that cardio at a steady pace is better than high intensity cardio/intervals?
Nice video evil!!
Nice video evil!!
@PasswordPower …
@PasswordPower Generally speaking you shouldn’t do your cardio before your strength training, as it would take away from your performance there.
ok so if i want to …
ok so if i want to gain muscles i must run at low intensity as to not deplete the carbohydrates but not fatigue my muscles too much so they can rebuild?
Well, the video was …
Well, the video was about getting the maximum fat loss in the smallest amount of time.
When while sitting at your computer you manage to do a form of cardio activity simultaneously, then of course go ahead!
Nice Vid. But let …
Nice Vid. But let me ask. Based on your numbers(not exact)- If the 85% runner is only burning 26% more fat. Why not coast @50% for 60min vs. only say 30min @85%. If neither distance nor time is of concern. Then the turtle will burn 20% more than the hare at the end of the day. I easily waste 2hrs a day doing work @ home on the computer, why not keep moving at let’s say @40% during that time. How much fat would burn over that length of time. There no way anyone could do much else @ a 85% pace.
very well explained …
and it did help.
very well explained! Thnks!
i started to jog n wait training for 4months now. and i lost 14kgs/30Lbs. & i never concentrated on how fast im running. I ran fast enough (8-9 km/h)so tht i do feel like im working hard n soaking my T-shirt

Hey, thank you for …
Hey, thank you for replying =D
I think I’ll concentrate on gaining muscle now ( but still doing my 30 minutes of cardio everyday), because I belive if you improve your overall strengh, the 6-pack abs will come naturally because the more muscles you have, the more fat is burned while resting. Am I right with this? ^^ Also, it’s not very funny to count calories all the time, I did it for a whole month, it was a torture -.-
Heah King, no you …
Heah King, no you shouldn’t lose more weight! Doing that might actually limit your ability to build muscle!
If your abs still don’t show then what might be the case is that your ab mucles still aren’t developed enough to be visible.
After all, I still …
After all, I still don’t know what do do in my situation =D
What do I have to do to lower my bodyfat percentage without losing weight anymore? Im already down to 69 KG (my body height is 188 cm) and I can’t see my abs at all? Maybe you can answer my question.
Would be nice if you PM me and I would prefer german, you sound like you’re originally from germany ^^
