How dangerous is this, and what are lethal pulse rates that I should be very concerned with ever having? Is there an official value for a lethal pulse rate?
Above 160 is certainly pathological, no fixed criteria for lethal.
You need check up, cause may be in the heart or hyperthyroidism.
Good luck!

You should definitely get it checked out by a doctor.

The fact that your pulse is at 140 at rest in and of itself is not directly lethal, but it may be a sign of underlying problems that can be. This is something that needs to be evaluated by a physician soon. Get in to your primary doc’s office or ER…now.
For an otherwise healthy adult, the average pulse is 60-100. There is no "official" lethal pulse rate, but most people are having serious difficulties if they are above about 80% of their estimated maximal heart rate for prolonged periods (unless you are a trained athlete). Max heart rate? Easiest way to estimate is 220 minus your age.

I agree that you need to be checked for hyperthyroidism. You may also have a neurological issue with the nerves that control your heart. Another possibility may be elevated cortisol levels, as seen in Cushing’s, a disorder of the adrenal glands. Still another possibility is low blood sugar. Do you have any other symptoms? Be sure to mention this when you see the doctor.
Some people also notice a change in heart rate due to hypoxia (lack of oxygen), which can occur with asthma and/or allergies.
Stress, caffeine, anxiety, over-training, illness, infection, dehydration, smoking, drugs like meth and cocaine, medications, and fever can also elevate your heart rate..
You should be screened for heart conditions, and have all of your endocrine hormones checked.
This may be nothing, or it may be serious. Don’t take chances with your heart…see your doctor for a full physical, including an EKG.
I agree with the MD above, a heartrate of 160 or above, while not likely lethal, indicates some sort of pathology.
See your doctor, and don’t be scared to go to the ER if you feel faint, have trouble breathing, or have chest pain. These can be signs of a life-threatening emergency. Call 911.

It could simply be an over production adrehalin due to a generalised anxiety state. This pulse rate will do you absolutely no harm whatsoever unless there is an underlying physiological cause. You should go see your Doctor to rule this out.
Your pulse rate can rise up to 190 if you are otherwise fit and well.
Like you I have a resting pulse rate of 140 and have had 4 years, and have gathered all the pertinent information.
For your own peace of mind, get it checked.I am sure you are fine.
