Coast to Coast AM – EMP Attacks part 1/8

Professor William Forstchen talked about how an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack could disable the power
grid over large swaths of America. If fission bombs were detonated above the country, a gamma ray burst would trigger an electromagnetic disturbance,
knocking out the infrastructure below it, he explained. Such effects have been demonstrated with high altitude nuclear tests such as Starfish Prime,
and can be seen on a smaller scale in this video clip showing what happens to a Ford Taurus that gets zapped by EMP.

Forstchen said in an EMP attack the power grid might be down for months or even years. He also warned that EMP effects could be caused by solar flares,
like the superstorm that occurred in 1859. He suggested that people call for Congress to recognize that EMP is a real issue, and move toward
strengthening America’s infrastructure. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett has taken this subject seriously, he added.

    Also getting rid of …
Also getting rid of the Federal government would not be much of a loss. Even the loss of some of the State govs would be a relief. There would soon be a bartering system for trading. Smaller towns that have early 1900 knowledge would be some of the strongest forces as they would band the “ones that cling to their guns and religion” to keep order and protect farms. It would be closer the the “Wild West”. And very much welcomed to a great many people.

    Being able to have …
Being able to have even short range communication between your base and others you have in the field can be very vital. If you have someone out foraging wild foods and they break a leg and need help, base would never know to send help.
And since I am not the only one that is storing the old CBs in faraday cages, my network is going to be much bigger than the ppl that don’t see the value of it. I will have a better security ring.

    Uhm, that’s NORTH …
Uhm, that’s NORTH Korea: BUT, the real liklihood of N Korea or Iran WANTING to nuke anybody in anything other than a purely last-chance defense is remote to none — that’s more fear-hype self-fulfilling paranoid BS by our ‘leaders’ to justify their own power & perpetual-war incitements & provocations, just as duplicitous as the WMD & evil Taliban/Al Qaeda frauds used to justify the last 8 years of war-mongering, idiocy flirting w/ starting Global War driven-by faux-Xtian dreams of Armageddon.

  9. starmanskye says:

    HeH! C’mon, what …
HeH! C’mon, what real value would a 2-way radio or CB or even shortwave reciever be after a severe EMP event? NO transportation, electric lights, heat (except wood), water (except what you carry in a bucket), refridgeration, telephone — meaning NO stores, NO services, NO jobs, NO government — basically, life changes for everybody, probably forever as the grid would be SO impossible to resurrect given a 14th Century society — it would be total anarchy. PROBABLY no less than we deserve.

  10. dontlikenumbers says:

If there is an EMP …
If there is an EMP attack most everything will get knocked out. Off or on. Unless it is in what is called a Faraday cage. If you have any 2-way radios or a CB lying around get them protected. I would also encourage getting a spare solenoid for your car and protecting that as well.

As far as South Korea wanting to bomb America:

UNDERSTAND: The USA has put sanctions against that country and that is NOT FAIR, and if America was cut off from importing anything, we would be quite off, as well.

USA is a terrorst and an agressor!

    In Navy testing, …
In Navy testing, electronics needed to be attached to a “long line” to be affected, i.e, plugged into the AC grid or antenna coax. Receivers attached to long lines were affected–transmitters were not very affected. A transistor radio would likely survive since it is not “long lined.” To be sure though, put smaller electronics in a Farady Cage (see google) (i.e., cardboard box with foil around it). A metal box or desk would work too.
