<br />Your joints and body parts are moving faster than usual. So the heart has to pump more oxygen than usual through your blood. That is why we often breathe faster while running after running than when we are walking. The heart pumps blood and oxygen through our bodies by pulsing. The more it needs to pump, the faster it pulses. That is also why when you are out of breath, your heart is pulsing faster.</p>

Burns between 250- 300 calories per day and exercise for about 30 &#8211; 40 minutes. Is my pressure is within the limit??<br />
<br />It is impossible to predict blood pressure based solely on the heart rate. Home blood pressure machines can be purchased at most pharmacies and are usually less than 50 dollars.</p>

The average resting heart beat on a healthy male is 68/72<br />
Although there&#8217;s a wide range of normal, an unusually high or low heart rate may indicate an underlying problem. Consult your doctor if your resting heart rate is consistently above 100 beats a minute (tachycardia) or below 60 beats a minute (bradycardia) — especially if you have other signs or symptoms, such as fainting, dizziness or shortness of breath</p>

Usually when I get it checked I have seen 80, 95,105,even 127 but never 70 should I be worried? At the time I wasnt doing any strenuous activity when I was having the pulse rate checked does that make a difference?<br />
<br />Normal pulse (also called heart rate) is 60-100. Most adults run between 70-80 at rest but can be 60 or 100 and still be normal. You have nothing to worry about. 127 is way too high, if you have a rate of 127 you should let your Dr know unless you take it right after exercising. Your rate should be taken at rest.</p>

<p>When a person’s face enters water, they will usually enter a state in which the body attempts to conserve oxygen known as the mammalian diving reflex. This conservation of oxygen is done via the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system from nerves on your face and causes bradycardia. Furthermore, the diving reflex stimulates peripheral constriction of the blood vessels in the outer extremities of your body which will prevent blood circulation to non-vital areas while maximizing the supply of oxygen to vital organs, such as the brain. The diving reflex is sometimes activating to treat ventricular tachycardia, a type of increased rhythm of your heart. In David Blaine’s case, he inhaled pure oxygen and trained his lungs to inhale air until they filled their physiological capacity using a technique called glossopharyngeal insufflation. Additionally, by doing his stunt underwater, he activated his diving reflex, permitting him to hold his breath longer than on land. So, if you are planning to break his record while dry, don’t hold your breath. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Suppose your resting BP was 127/85 and pulse rate was 73 bpm one time, but the next time, say a week later, your resting BP was 135/ 80, is it possible to calculate what your pulse rate was, on the second occasion, simply from the BP figures?<br />
<br />Well, it would, if the figures you cite were valid, but I&#8217;m afraid they don&#8217;t add up, so you can&#8217;t.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the Doubtfire equation, from which you can, for a given cardiac output, calculate heart rate (HR)  from pulse pressures PP alone, this (pulse pressure) being  the difference between systolic and diastolic pressure on any occasion :-</p>
<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. HR2  = PP1/PP2  x HR1, </p>
<p>meaning that it is possible to calculate heart rate from pressures alone, providing you already have ONE previous set of readings.</p>
<p>However, the readings you quote show that the cardiac output on the second occasion was about 70% higher than it was on the first, &#8211; so it can&#8217;t possibly be a reading taken at &quot;rest&quot;.   The Doubtfire Equation only holds for constant (or nearly so) cardiac output. Small variations in CO give rise to acceptable margins of error in accuracy, -but not ones so large as 70%. If the cardiac output had changed only say 5%, then the calculation would be approximately right, with an accuracy of +/- 5%, and for clinical purposes this is reasonable. In practice, CO doesn&#8217;t vary that much if the patient is in true REST state.</p>
<p>Of course, if you have the values of CO on both occasions then the calculation is 100% accurate, to within +/- 1 bpm. But then you&#8217;d use Lowe&#8217;s Equation instead:-</p>
<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.HR2  = HR1 x CO2/CO1  x PP1/PP2 </p>
<p>This copes with any cardiac output, and doesn&#8217;t require readings to be taken at rest. It can be employed even on treadmill work, or Bruce Protocol readings<br />
&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..</p>
<p>I was amused by Will&#8217;s posting that &quot;Human Physiology is much more complicated than algebra.&quot;<br />
It isn&#8217;t, of course. If only algebra were that simple and &#8216;uncomplicated&#8217;!!<br />
 Human physiology follows the mundane laws of science, exactly as all other activities do, and medicine is no exception.<br />
It only seems to be more complicated because the algebra of it hasn&#8217;t properly been worked out.Maybe it never will&#8230;.<br />
 But all physiological function ultimately morphs ineluctably into pure Math. </p>

<br />Yes there is, and it&#8217;s a very precise mathematical relationship, expressible in algebraic form, but in order to understand it, first you must distinguish between what you are calling &quot;blood pressure&quot; (which doesn&#8217;t really exist) and its two component parts, (which do). These are &#8216;pulse pressure&#8217;  and &#8216;diastolic&#8217; pressure. They are real, and do exist.  &quot;Blood pressure&quot; doesn&#8217;t. It only lies in the collective imagination of the medical profession.</p>
<p>The three determinants of PP, the pulse pressure, are (a) heart rate, (b) cardiac output, and (c) wall compliance of the root of the aorta**, so pulse rate HR affects it greatly. Much more so than cardiac output does.<br />
So there IS a connection there, between human pulse rate and pulse pressure.</p>
<p>But human heart rate does NOT affect the diastolic pressure Pd at all, because that is simply the mathematical product of the amount of blood flowing along the arteries at any time, times the resistance to flow presented by those arteries. </p>
<p>  Pulse pressure, when added to diastolic pressure, gives the value of systolic pressure. The equation connecting pulse pressure, heart rate, cardiac output, and C, the compliance, is in the Source I quote below. <p>Miguel&#8217;s posting is simply wrong. BP often goes down as heart rate rises, as Techwing correctly states.</p>
<p>But Techwing&#8217;s posting is also wrong for the same reason, because (a) a faster heart rate very frequently correlates not only to higher pressures but also to lower ones  and (b)  the algebraic relationship between CO, HR, CO, and C described above is in no way &#8216;loose&#8217;.  It&#8217;s so precise that it is possible to calculate heart rate to an accuracy of better than +/- 1 bpm, and pressure to within +/- 1 mm.Hg, and cardiac output to within 1mil/minute, simply from BP readings.</p>
<p>NOTE ** There is a fourth determinant, which is fairly obscure, and goes unrecognized, and it is the resonance of the aorta, which amplifies the pulse pressure wave as it traverses the large arteries, making it appear to be greater than it is, when measured.
