which blood vessel is where pulse and blood pressure are detected?
and
why are pulse and blood pressure only felt in this blood vessel?
thank you for answering…
It’s your artery.
This blood vessel has the most pressure because it carries blood away from the heart to other organs and tissues. Because of it’s high pressure the ‘pounding’ is more easily detectable. This ‘pounding’ actually occurs because the artery passes over a bone.
So basically this answers yours second question, the pulse is only felt in this blood vessel because it has the highest pressure since its the blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart. It needs this high pressure in order the carry blood (which contains vital components such as oxygen) all around the body.
I’m pretty sure you can check your pulse and blood pressure with your arteries. you can feel them pumping because of the heart’s contractions pushing the blood into the vital parts of the body. That’s why you cant feel it with capillaries or veins because they are pumping deoxygenized blood to the lungs.

You’re probably asking about the radial artery, where it passes over the wrist; it’s easiest to feel there Actually, the pulse can be felt wherever an artery can be pressed against a bone. other easily-reached places are the neck, behind the knee, inside the albow, and at the ankle. Same thing is true about detecting blood pressure, as the cuff squeezes the brachial artery against the humerus.

generally blood pressure is taken in the upper arm – brachial artery. Its easy and accurate to take it here, but I have seen nurses take BP on lower arm and also the legs when we did not access to the arm (such as multiple IV or dialysis fistula), so we just have to write in the chart where the bp was taken, because it could explain false high or false low pressure readings. Again, I think its just the easiest place to wrap a BP cuff around, and by everyone doing it the same, there is consistency in medicine, and there is an established normal value for BP taken in the upper arm. The easiest places to feel your pulse is you carotid artery (side of neck), but in children it is standard to check their brachial pulse. But there are lots other places! There is also a radial and ulnar pulse near your wrist (ulnar much deeper so harder to feel on most people). Then right at your hip crease/groin area there is a femoral pulse, then behind the knee a popliteal pulse (very hard to feel), then two sets of pulses on the feet, dorsalis pedis and posterior tibialis. FYI I am a nursing student and when we come in to assess our patients in the morning, we usually check their peripheral pulses to make sure they are getting good blood flow to the hands and feet (wrist and feet). Usually the wrist is the easier place to feel the pulse, or the brachial in children. HOWEVER if you think someone might be dead, you should always check the carotid pulse (neck) because often in states of injury, there may be less blood to the arms/legs in order to save blood for vital organs such as the heart and brain, so they may not have a wrist pulse, but they should have a carotid pulse if blood is still flowing to their brain. hope this helped?
