  • Is blood pressure the same as blood pulse? What are the units of measure for blood pulse/blood pressure?

Posted by admin on November 15th, 2009 and filed under blood pulse | 4 Comments »

BP and your Pulse are two different thing, but both measure the function of the heart.

The pulse measure the amount of time you heart contracts or beats. This is measured by beats per minutes, and is also known as your heart rate.

The blood pressure is measured by mm of Hg (millimeters of mercury)
It is measured by two values.
The top number is known as the systolic: the force of the blood in your arterial system when the ventricles contract.
The bottom number is the diastolic: the pressure in your arteries when there is no pressure from the ventricle, also known as when the ventricle relaxes, this is giving time for the ventricles to fill up with blood before the push again.

No, pulse how many times your heart beats per minute.Pressure is systolic and diastolic.Systolic is the maximum pressure when your heart beats.Diastolic is the minimum pressure when the heart relaxes between beats.Normal is about 139 or less over 89 or less.

Blood pressure (BP for short) is the pressure of blood exerted per unit area on the wall of the artery. It is usually measured in mm of Hg (mercury) using a mercury sphygmanometer.

I have never herd the term blood pulse. The most frequent terms used are are heart rate and pulse or pulse rate.

A pulse is defined as the number of times a heart beats in each minute. During blood loss (bleeding) the heart beats faster. More than 100 beats per minute is common.

Athletes who are fit have good heart rates. At rest the heart may only beat about 40 times per minute. This is called physiological bradycardia.

Normal: Systolic Less than 120 | Diastolic Less Than 80
      Pre-Hypertension: Systolic 120 – 139 | Diastolic 80 – 89
      Stage 1: Systolic 140 – 159 | Diastolic 90 – 99
Stage 2: Systolic 160 or higher | Diastolic 100 or higher

      hope this helps
